RESUMO

THE AIM OF THE STUDY: To familiarize dentists with the features of the clinical course of acute purulent mumps occurring in patients with COVID-19. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Four patients aged 73 to 89 years with acute bilateral purulent mumps, which occurred against the background of COVID-19, were under observation. The patients were treated for COVID-19, and acute purulent mumps was also treated. RESULTS: As a result of treatment, two patients were discharged in satisfactory condition on the 9th and 10th days under medical supervision at their place of residence. Their mumps phenomena have completely subsided. Two patients died from acute respiratory failure, cerebral edema, septic condition, acute renal and hepatic insufficiency. From the parotid glands, acute inflammatory phenomena subsided. CONCLUSION: It was found that one of the complications of COVID-19 may be the development of acute bilateral purulent mumps, which aggravated the course of the underlying disease. Inflammation of the parotid glands proceeded according to the type of acute postoperative mumps against the background of a sharp decrease in the secretory activity of the salivary glands according to the type of asialia. Timely comprehensive treatment of acute mumps allows in some cases to avoid a fatal outcome.

RESUMO

The authors conducted an analysis of the efficiency of the method of suandokmai for diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the salivary glands. The use of calendarscope allows to establish the absence of stone in the case of salivary colic. In rare cases it is possible to remove the stone without surgical intervention at small dimensions of the calculus. 'Price of equipment - the efficiency of diagnosis and treatment' does not allow to recommend the method in clinical practice.

RESUMO

The paper presents a clinical case demonstrating difficulties in differential diagnosis of salivary glands disorders. The patient underwent several surgical procedures none of which was indicated. The article summarizes the reasons for diagnostic pitfalls of the case.

RESUMO

Shockwave lithotripsy was performed by various appliances in sialolithiasis patients. The best results were obtained by means of miniature appliances. Lithotripsy proved to be useful safe alternative for sialolithiasis treatment.

RESUMO

There were examined and treated 181 patients with sialolithiasis in the period of the disease exacerbation. About 30% of the patients were directed to the clinic with mistaken diagnoses. Out of diagnostic techniques in the period of exacerbation there were employed external and bimanual palpation of the inflamed gland region. The most diagnostic value in the period of sialolithiasis exacerbation had X-ray and computer sialotomography (it allowed to diagnose salivary calculi in 98% of the cases). In the period of sialadenitis exacerbation sialotomography is not recommended for use. Ultrasound diagnostics let to reveal concretions of big sizes. Treatment of patients in the acute period of sialolithiasis included salivary gland duct system sanation with antiseptics use and external blockades.

RESUMO

Examinations of 125 patients with sialolithiasis showed abnormality of the submandibular duct (diverticulum with a sialolith in it) in 3 (2.4%) patients. The authors suggest that diverticulum of the submandibular duct is in fact a variant of its ectasia and can be regarded as a diagnostic nosological entity.

RESUMO

A new method for the treatment of chronic sialodochitis and sialolithiasis is suggested for cases with essential dilatation of the duct in the intraglandular compartment of the parotid gland: the external wall of dilated duct is dissected and the two resultant parts are twisted inside and sutured to the internal wall of the dilated duct; the parotid duct is ligated at the site of its exit from the gland.

RESUMO

Salivary pools from 16 patients with sialolithiasis were analyzed after sialolithotripsy. Quantitative parameters (total protein, calcium, phosphorus, sodium, potassium, chlorine), pH, and viscosity of the saliva were studied. The patients were divided into 2 groups by the results of lithotripsy: 1) with good and satisfactory results and 2) with poor results. Total protein content in salivary pools and salivary viscosity in patients with sialolithiasis were significantly higher than in the saliva of normal controls, while the concentrations of calcium and potassium were lower than in the controls. Phosphorus content and viscosity of mixed saliva were higher in group 1 than in group 2, in which the results of lithotripsy were unsatisfactory. These data can be used for predicting the outcomes of lithotripsy and for tentative diagnosis of sialolithiasis.

RESUMO

Salivary lithotripsy may be performed with lithotriptors used for crushing urinary concrements. In some cases the method helps escape removal of the salivary gland if the stone is localized inside the gland. Further modifications of the method are needed.
